Wild Petunia – Ruellia humilis

Wild Petunia aka Prairie Petunia or Fringeleaf Wild Petunia is a low growing kind of bushy plant with little purple flowers that bloom for much of the summer. It’s a great plant for a woodland edge, and is the host plant for the Buckeye butterfly. It looks similar to the non-native petunias we know, however it’s actually a member of the Acanthaceae family.
