Description
Pennsylvania Sedge, Carex pensylvanica
Height: 8-10 inches
This grass-like groundcover is one of the most versatile natives around.? Typically found in shady or dappled woodlands, it’s often planted as a lawn substituted in shady areas.? Planted in masses, it will slowly spread to form a dense carpet of wavy hair-like foliage.
But another great way to use this plant is as living mulch.? If you underplant your shrubs and trees with this sedge, you’ll have a much more ecologically friendly way to keep weeds at bay (dozens of species of caterpillars make their home in this sedge).? And a carpet of sedge looks a heck of a lot better than any bagged mulch you can find.

Plugs are 2 inches across with roots extending 5 inches deep.? They’re an economical way to add a lot of plants at once.? A tray of 25 plugs will cover about 20-25 square feet.
Garden trays must be ordered by noon on Thursday, May 3rd. They will be available for in-person pickup between 9 am and 5 pm on Saturday, May 12th (Mother’s Day Weekend) in Collingswood, NJ (pickup location TBA).
